Thread: 'You Eat?????'

Dusty - 8/21/2003 at 02:12 AM

I was trying to think of a topic,, that I havent seen on all the forums.....
this is a phrase a old friend would ask me,,, he had a restuarent in Italian Part of RI,, and as some of youse know,, we do have a cast of character's here in RI,, our Mayor Buddy...doing a bit of 'time' in a Fed pen,,, for something called RICO LOL.. and ex governor,, ED..' Baby Gerber' Diprete... hhmm ...another RICO..convection....
but back to my story,,,every now and thene,, I would get a call .. and all I'd hear over the Phone,, was 'You Eat???' ...Of course I knew who it was.. and Id say 'No' then 'come eat' was his response... and the phone would go dead... so I'd take a ride to Providence, and 'Go eat'....
so I'd have some pasta,, some scampi...some vino...a little sambuca... good food ,,, free food..
then we would go outside and take a drive,, and talk some,, then part ways,,, this was way over a decade ago....some where ,, some time,, he just vanished..never to be heard of again and common occurance in some inner circles around here ....and ya really dont ask questions,,, get the drift?....

But I was wondering 'You Eat???'
I grilled up a few rack of ribs... with my special ..hhmmm aahhh 'rasta ribs' I call them,LOL..
a few ears of corn from the farm across the river. nice and fresh and a nice big salad from my neighbors Linda's garden....
SO I was wondering...
..... You Eat????....

WasntBorn2Follow - 8/21/2003 at 05:20 AM

No. Not yet. Can I come over and eat at your place Dusty?

Pam - 8/21/2003 at 11:36 AM

LOL. Jeremy that's a long way to go for dinner!
Dusty mentioned Linda up there and I just wanted to point out that in the Big River Blues CD insert he thanked her kindly for the vittles.

I used to work with this guy who retired from the Navy when I had a pharmacy wharehouse job some years ago and he used to tell us about the "gravy lady", as he called her. This little old lady that had a crush on him and he would get home after second shift and have a hot plate of food waiting on the step for him. She always made homemade gravy, hence the name.

Dusty - 8/21/2003 at 03:30 PM

Pam ,,BRB was a long time ago.....and the vittles are very few coming from that direction,,,, but a few minutes alone in her garden.. and I got a salad lol/// sorry jeremy,, chicks only

LinnieXX - 8/21/2003 at 08:01 PM

food is good.
i could tell a really sad, sad, story here but don't want to bum any one out (including myself).

so instead i'll say that it has been very fulfilling dropping off the Rock and Wrap food lately to the homeless shelter. Me and TerriB found one that had children staying there; and when we left after dropping off about 100 pounds of food i felt like i was high. like i did something that was making a difference. great feeling.

it's a shame the number of children and adults that go to bed hungry. there is plenty of resources for no single person to go hungry.

and dusty....what times dinner?

Dusty - 8/21/2003 at 09:58 PM

I'm starting the grill now after me eating only cereal in the webcam pic of the day...I'm hungry

LinnieXX - 8/22/2003 at 05:01 PM

mmmmmmmmnnnnnnn bbq cereal.....

[Edited on 8/22/2003 by LinnieXX]

Dusty - 8/23/2003 at 03:13 AM

NO No NO,, the cereal had milk,, ... but I grilled up.yesterday nite.. some fresh flounder fillets, a friend caught in the bay ,,, the beginning of the week,, with some special herbs abd spices,,slow grilled..,, some Big River farm corn,, salad..... I eat alone,,, but I eat good
tonite taco bell,,,, cant grill in the rain

Pam - 8/25/2003 at 03:30 AM

You never eat alone, Jake is always there.

You need an awning over the porch where the grill is. You can grill in the rain then. That is why my Dad has that tarp menagerie on his deck, to grill in the rain and a good part of the winter too!

BROOSE - 8/25/2003 at 04:35 PM

ahh yes, cooking.
Not only do i play the bass but i'm an award winning amateur chef as well. A first and second at the "men who cook" festival in providence.
I have a great pix of sausage making. not for thoes who are ambivelant about eating meat.
brew beer too.
sausage and beer!

Pam - 8/25/2003 at 05:50 PM

Pam - 8/26/2003 at 01:09 AM

I had dinner at my Dad's. He called and said he just made pasta as I was going to make pasta here! Good timing!

Dusty - 8/26/2003 at 06:23 PM

Pam - 8/26/2003 at 07:12 PM

Dusty - 9/13/2003 at 01:53 AM

..hhmmm... a few minutes ago,,, I just made a sandwich,, Inspired by watching Dave Letterman on monday night,,, it was a tribute to Waren Zevon,,, and a small clip of DL asking WZ,, if he saw any enilghtment in the last few months , ,,knowing what his outcome would soon be........ and WZ said, "enjoy every sandwich....."
so I just made a turkey with swiss cheese, fresh tomato . with just a bit of seasoning and some honey dijon salad dressing with mayo on a bulky roll...... and it was damn good........
.....that clock ticks for all of us......all the time........have a good sandwich

I could move to the South just for the food. Last time I was in Macon I ate at the H&H, don't always eat a big lunch but they weren't doing dinner that day. I had fried chicken, rice with gravy (in Canada no one puts gravy on rice!), black-eyed peas and collard greens (I could eat a plate of them). They don't serve beer, which would have gone down nice on that hot day, but instead I had the house specialty of a big tumbler of sweet iced tea. Man, I 'm gettin' hungry thinking about it.

Another memorable eat was late this summer at a ribfest here in Toronto, there were food stands with award winning ribs from all over the States, Mmmmm, I 'et good that day!

Sherrick - 9/19/2003 at 11:13 PM

Just had a sandwich the side of my head...there's a place called Giant Grinder near my house, and they make some of the biggest frickin' sandwiches I've seen in my entire life...and theyre damn good, too.

Ham, Capicola, Salami, Pepperoni, American Cheese, Swiss Cheese, and some Jalapeno Peppers. Hot damn it was good.

Hey're a Rhode Island guy, eh? Ever spend any time in South Kingston/Charlestown? I spent many a month there up until I was about 20, during the summers...we'd rent a place on Green Pond that had private ocean beach access, and was connected to a pond with an ocean outlet....great times. And great meals every year at the Charlestown Seafood Festival....some of the best seafood I ever ate, when I actually ate it.

yurtle - 9/21/2003 at 11:23 AM

Good old sunday morning...

Made a peach cobbler last night to be baked with lunch today- Mashed potatoes & gravy, Mac & Cheese pie, Lima beeans, And Southern Fried(not kentucky). Getting hungry thinking about it.

Last night we went to the "Greek festival" losts of good food, ate lots of food I can't pronounce, and exposed Lil Sarah to her first cultural experience. She wasn't sure what was different-- But by her big eyes you could tell she sensed something was different. Oktoberfest is next

I sure did,, had a friend in the early 70's,,, gone like most of them but,, he had a place on Green pond with his boat docked in front,,,, we could see Block Island form his windows,, and Id take us about 15 minutes to get there.. it had twin 160 merc's and the damn thing screwed ,, and all theses little toys like radar, loran,a early phone in a suitcase,,,ect,,, would go 20 or so miles off BI ,, and do some tuna fishin'.... and other stuff,,,it could easily out run the Coast Guard.... hhmm wonder why we need something like that !!!LOL..... had another friend and he had his Lobster boat, at Pt Judith.. and all the Lobsters we would eat!!!!!! HHHMMMMM .....

Y'all know what I like....Red Hot Chicken!

Miss Elf went to the H&H the other day and had the fried chicken, squash, peas and cornbread. Lawdy.

I have been doing this pasta dish, just sautee some garlic, oregano, yellow and red bell peppers, brocolli, carrots, basil, whatever meats you want, throw in some almost cooked pasta and then the marinara and alfredo sauce....toss it a few times in the pan, and voila!

Anyway, there's more time to make pancakes and bacon when you don't have to run out somewhere!

Damn Dusty, I thought the same thing after the winter this year up here in Canada. I love the Southern states, pretty women and good eats. I still remember the first time I ate at the H&H in Macon. Stopped in for lunch and got a plate full of chicken, rice and collard greens ...I think I must have been a Southerner in another life

...hhmmmm it sounded good but with ecommy... the housing market sucks..... I was on a website that gave out the value of the homes on my street all water front.... and mine in the last month along dropped 11 grand in value.... and close to 150 grand in the last 16 months
but what goes down will come up....
but this last winter never seemed to stop....even now in june... tommorow is gonna be in the mid 50 and hearvy rain.... so I got a stack of firewood....
~and so it goes~
