Thread: The Dusty Family Thanksgiving!

Pam - 10/11/2003 at 03:23 PM

Hello all! Dusty came up with a fantastic idea to have a nice big t-givin' dinner at his place out on the river! What we would like is for anyone who will not be spending Thanksgiving with family or friends this year to come on out and share the good food and beautiful setting out on Big River! It will be an informal event so come on over in your comfy clothes and if you have an instrument be sure to bring it along for the Thanksgiving Jam!
Last year around holiday time I started gathering up phone numbers and calling those folks who were going to be alone for the holidays. I made some great friends that way but this year I decided along with Dusty that a phone call was great but we should all gather together and have some good old fashioned fun! Music, food and family to share it with! So far we have a couple of our musician friends that will be coming by and Dusty the resident blues man, Abigail and myself and anyone else that wants to come on out! Your all invited! The door is open! The fireplace will be going and we are gonna have a great time! Nothing like a beautiful Thanksgiving in New England!

Dusty - 10/11/2003 at 07:29 PM

yurtle - 10/13/2003 at 01:00 PM

Dusty - 10/14/2003 at 02:38 PM

hhmmm christmas tree. ....I cut my own here every year...in the Spring I trim them up...so they will bush out and pick one after Thanksgiving... and add lights all over my cabin..I'm just a big kid that got old and slow...LOL hhmm I think I wrote a song about that

Pam - 10/15/2003 at 02:45 PM

Haha! A big kid! Aren't we all! T-givin' is going to be fun!

Sherrick - 10/15/2003 at 03:50 PM

Dusty: before my mom passed, we had our own Christmas tree FARM....so we always had a kickass tree every year.

Thanksgiving jam sounds like fun...I have plans here, so I can't come on down.

Hell...if you keep doin' this...maybe it'll evolve, like the Warren Haynes Christmas Jam..you can get bands, and find a charity and whatnot.....Or just have a big jam, and pass the hat, or something.

Pam - 10/19/2003 at 12:38 AM

I have a great list of "stuff to get" started already!

Dusty - 10/20/2003 at 04:40 AM

Me too but I'll probally go hunting for the turkey and some venison at my friends farm we'll have a real Swamp Yankee fest I'm really looking forward to it...I mean Thansgiving...I'll have all my Xmas lights up for it too,, last year we had snow before Halloween and then it kept going... so I couldet get up on the roof for the lights up there..... but had them all over the deck.. and for sure I'll have the mistletoe up inside......

CanPeach - 10/20/2003 at 04:10 PM

Pam - 10/21/2003 at 02:06 PM

Benjamin - 10/21/2003 at 05:39 PM

hmm......I wonder if Jen....and Emily....and Jacob....and the Bean....would want to drive "back home" to NE for Thanksgiving....

What River we talking about?

Dusty - 10/23/2003 at 02:41 PM

Hey Jim...its called Big River by the Indians.... flat river by the Yankees... and part of it is called johnsons pond , by the city folks
wow... is that snow again......
and Jim ,, a big thanks to ya for tracking, the Rain Desert CD

Benjamin - 10/27/2003 at 01:01 PM

Dusty - the tracking effort was my pleasure, and actually a snap if you use CDWave (you can download it for free from www.etree.org)

Coventry - my wife Jen and I were just talking about that place yesterday - we both use to live there, before we were mariied, and we were attending UCONN - I think it was 1987-88.
Jen lived in a place on Lake Coventry - I lived on some route that I can't remember (was it something like rt31??)
At any rate, use to have to take a turn at the Nathan Hale homestead to get from my place to her's...my mind is a sad thing - I can't remember much anymore!

Dusty - 10/27/2003 at 03:29 PM

hey Jim,,, I believe the Coventry your refering to is in Pam's neck of the woods in CT...Im in RI... near Gen.Greene homestead....some how Im related to the Hopkins family....one of the signers on the Declaration of Independence.....on my mother side...seems all us swamp yankees are related one way or the other
......somehow I remember to much,, and I dont have a clue to why

Benjamin - 10/27/2003 at 04:16 PM

Oh, I had the wrong Coventry - you're RI Coventry place is near Foster and Scituate, right?

My wife is from Johnston...no big hair, IROC or accent anymore, though....

Dusty - 10/28/2003 at 01:48 PM

Pam & Abi just left , and full of turkey,, and got some great pics,,,that Ill be adding soon.......

Pam - 12/8/2003 at 12:03 AM

Did you all see the pictures yet?

Thanksgiving was a couple weeks ago but I have been busy and had a cold so I am just catching up with overdue stuff here now.

Anyway....T-givin' was a small group but fun! For something Dusty wanted to keep the doors open for anyone who would have rather been alone, I guess a small group was good because that meant most folks were with family or friends.
The ride to a friends house is never long...going to Dusty's place is the scenic route. Was a great day for a ride through the woods!
We got there and were welcomed by the smell of good food and the fireplace crackling and hung out and talked awhile and I had brought Goldtop's goldtop with me and Doc the guitar pro was there and just had to check her all out. He loved that guitar and I hope he left some magic in it as everyone else has who has touched it!
After hanging out we had Arlo's Alice's Restaurant DVD on in black and white and playing the commentary selection. Was great to hear Arlo's comments about the making of the film and all the folks that had a part in it and to hear him speek of Woody with great fondness.
Then on to dinner! We all thanked God for food and for knowing we are blessed. Filled our plates and ate good! Then we hung out with the guitars some more and Dusty had gifts for us! Like Christmas early! Cool! We sat and talked by the fire after that for a long while and had some dessert and hung out by the fire some more. Than it was time to go and we all gave hugs. Dusty walked us out to the car as he always does and as I drove away I was thinking how just like every other Thanksgiving I was feeling Thankful for all that had happened that day. Being surrounded by those you love and knowing that you are loved and music, food and good company, it was a great feeling and still makes me smile....

Dusty - 12/9/2003 at 02:35 AM

yea,it was nice,,,,, and fun when Abi wanted to go out side with me to look at the Xmas lights.... she would go to one spot and look,,,, then say 'lets go over there " and we would walk to another spot.....look at the lights ,then another,, the smile on her face in the reflection of the lights was priceless
and Pam , you should know,,,that eveyday when you and Abi are here with me,,its Christmas

Dusty - 12/17/2003 at 03:48 PM

quote: Dusty walked us out to the car as he always does
that should be easy to figure out.... more hugs

Dusty - 10/18/2005 at 04:38 AM

Dusty - 12/2/2005 at 03:19 AM
