Thread: Do you have a pet?!

WasntBorn2Follow - 8/10/2003 at 12:40 AM

I was just looking at my cat and he just inspired me to make this thread. What kind of pets does everyone have? If you have none, what would you like to have?

Pam - 8/10/2003 at 01:54 AM

Abi and me have a dog, Gibber, 2 siamese cats, Bluey and Cupcake, a rabbit, Cookie, 3 ginea pigs, Aquarious Smile, Copelia, Ice Cream, a hamster, Polka Dot, and a hermit crab, Hurmie.

Dusty has a singing doberman named Jake, there are several pics of Jake around the site here and Tasha too who past on last year. You can hear Jake singing on some of the clips here too.

Dusty - 8/10/2003 at 04:10 AM

aahh yes,, Me and my singing doberman. Jake... LOL ,funny when Pam and Abi was over a few days back,, he wasent in the mood,,, and today,, he wouldent stop...I guess he has to be in the mood!!! and theres a link on my link page to My Dogs site.and on my MP3 site,,, there a old outake , 'just going back home',,,, which turned into 'Blues take me home',,,, and Jakes, on that one too...
.I really like all types of animals,,, but its hard to for a doberman to understand that,,, they do have a attitude!!!

WasntBorn2Follow - 8/10/2003 at 04:42 AM

My cat's name is Floydy. I also have a fish named kermit and a parakeet, "birdy."

LinnieXX - 8/14/2003 at 06:53 PM

speaking of pets, i have a great little kitty named PI (like the math number....3.21740987598459894857294875.....)

he's the best cat (read: only cat) i've ever had. love him! very low maintenance.

a good friend of mine used to complain about his girlfriends dog all the time. well, today as he was backing out of the driveway, he hit a 'bump'. it was the dog. RIP little doggie.

Pam - 8/14/2003 at 07:12 PM

geez Linnie when I saw you posted here I thought you were going to say Mr.XX was your pet. LOL....
"Yeah, I have a pet, it is called a husband!"

LinnieXX - 8/14/2003 at 08:06 PM

"Yeah, I have a pet, it is called a husband!"

well, at least the cat doesnt talk back, stay out all night, and leave his underwear laying around all over the place.

oh, and the cat's neutered. i think Mr. Linnie might not like that much.

WasntBorn2Follow - 8/19/2003 at 01:39 AM

Unless they changed PI of course..

LinnieXX - 8/20/2003 at 02:31 PM

nobody said i was good at math boys.

let's just call Pi #3 and be done with it.

Dusty - 8/21/2003 at 01:19 AM

lol linnie a have a few other animals that have kinda adopted me,,, a bunch of ducks,,and geese, they hear me playing the guitar on the deck,,, and then want to get fed,, and a red squirrel named. reddy.. its BiG Jakes he hates it,,, its the only thing that will get him out of bed in the morning... I just say,,,' get outta here red...' amd he comes charging if I ever get attacked my a squirrel....I believe Ill be safe LOL

LinnieXX - 8/21/2003 at 08:05 PM

we have a whole gaggle of geese out in front of my house, since i live on a river....they are nice and all except for all the goose poop i guess......

and man, the bunnies don't have anything on the geese! last year i counted a group of 25 out there; this year....55!

The_Newt - 9/8/2003 at 03:18 PM

I've got a cat named Chester and a dog named Greta.
One of the best pets I ever had was a black and white ex-lab rat named Gunga that I got as a birthday present as a kid.

Dusty - 9/9/2003 at 04:47 AM

black and white ex-lab rat named Gunga sounded like a cool pet!

TopDroog - 9/9/2003 at 04:29 PM

I have exactly one fish in one bowl. A beta. He's bright crimson with purple "roots" (the place where the fins join the body). We call him "Red Elmo."

reloadtheory21 - 9/10/2003 at 03:08 AM

I have two cats and two dogs and my roommates. They are animals!

raydrums - 9/12/2003 at 03:20 PM

Two cats - Jazz & Blues

Dusty - 9/13/2003 at 01:37 AM

seems I've been adopted by a duck,, the poor thing is missing part of the front of its beak...and it cant seem to eat bread unless it soft in the water..... so every night I feed it,, had a one legged duck several years back,,, a female mallard,, I called her 'Peg' it was around for years.....
took jake to the bank today in the car ,, and when we got to the window he sat up..and hes taller than me when he does that!!!! and the look at the tellers face,, she spent 5 minutes talking about it and called some other of the ladies over to see, and they gave him a big bone
so thats my story on pets for now,,,seeya later

CanPeach - 9/17/2003 at 01:13 AM

When I was young and we lived in the county I had dogs, a rabbit, a Dad was always bringing stray animals home, my mom would just shake her head. I live in an apartment in the big city now and my son Dylan who is 9 keeps begging me to get a dog..."Just a small one?" he pleads. I'd love to have a dog but don't think its fair to leave one alone in an apartment all day. He lives with his mom during most of the week, unfortunately, his step-dad is allergic to dogs (and cats, and get the picture). anyway, yeah my goal is to buy a house in a couple of years and my first order of business will be a dog and maybe a cat. Dylan has gone through 2 hamsters in 3 years. It was only after I bought the little rodent that I discovered they only have a lifespan of 2 years. And you can't even tell when they're getting old, they just keep running in that damn wheel all night then just drop dead one day. So in case you're thinking of getting a hamster for your kid, ask in the store how old it is before you buy it!

Kreedham - 9/17/2003 at 07:10 PM

We've got 5 cats. One adopted from a shelter and 4 rescued. Smokey, Cricket, Pest (originally named Raisin but her personality changed it), Duncan, and Jet.

Remember to do them a favor and yourself by having them spayed or neutered.

Pam - 9/20/2003 at 12:01 AM

Good advice! Always get your kitties fixed!

Sherrick - 9/20/2003 at 12:43 AM

technically, none of them are my pets, but the pets adopt me as their girlfriend's parents have a 5 year old beagle named Sadie, and about a month ago, after Katie had settled into her apartment, she went to a human society and we picked out a 3 year old kitty, which was named Abby, and we kept the name, because it seemed to fit.

I've had numerous fish, a bird, a bunny (of which I want another one), a couple hermit crabs, and oddly enough, a lamb. The bunny and sheep were kept at my grandmothers house, which used to be a farm, so it had room.

Dusty - 9/20/2003 at 04:43 AM

and oddly enough, a lamb hey there ,, I did too,,, when I was a kid about 4 or so, My Dad would get a lamb to eat the grass in the back fields.... and later the lamb ...." would go to a good home , because it go to big!!! my folks would tell me.......then next Spring we would get another....... around the age of 6 or so.. I figured it out that we were eating " Lambert" after that we got a pony and did have it for a few years,,,,,

Sherrick - 9/20/2003 at 02:48 PM

Dusty: oops...poor Lambert...hehe. Mine was kinna old, grandfather bought them at a livestock auction of some sort....had em for five or six years, and then they got some kind of sheep disease or something. After they died was when we got the bunnies, I think. Unfortunately, since both grandparents who lived in that house have since passed, all i have is my spotty memory of what happened first, second, etc.

Pam - 9/20/2003 at 09:58 PM

Mark, we got a bunny. He is a little bastard and he bites me. Scratches too and he is mean to me but he is nice to Abi. I am allergic too but I let Abi get him. I think he doesn't like me because I cut his nails. His two teeth in the front had to get trimmed too because he wasn't chewing on the chew things he had so the vet told me to get a pair of toe nail clippers and cut the teeth. To heck with that I am not doing that! Vet does it for $10...

Sherrick - 9/21/2003 at 07:21 PM

Pam: heh...our bunnies were domesticated somehow, I forget how...I think they might have been captive bred or something....they are like a cat, though...they'll letcha know when to leave them alone...hehe. Abby the cat hated us for about a day or so after we cut her nails the first time, but once she got lonely of sitting by herself, she forgave us.

sweet of you to get a pet that yer allergic to, just so she could have it.

nyc_barb - 9/27/2003 at 10:01 PM

1 dog, Scarlet, a lab mix
2 cats, one shorthair Patches , he's grey and white and the grey parts look like patches (duh) when he walks away from you it looks like he's got leg warmers on! The other one, Zuki, is a white Himalayan. He had a black brother named Harley, but poor Harley had leukenia and left us.
We had a real menagerie about 2 yrs ago, Pinky the ferret, Little Richard the guinea pig and Jerry Springer the gecko. They've all gone to pet heaven.
We also have a boa and a leopard gecko, not to mention the koi in the pond outside.

Sherrick - 9/29/2003 at 10:42 PM

you have a koi pond? that's cool as hell! Did you put it in, or was it already there when you moved into the place??

nyc_barb - 9/30/2003 at 02:31 PM

My husband and my son dug out the pond last summer. In the spring a heron ate all the fish , so we had to put a screen on it before we got new ones. It looks really nice.

Sherrick - 9/30/2003 at 07:49 PM

yeah....birds seems to like Koi....I think its because theyre so frickin' bright, you can't but help see them from above...being that they're bright orange, or yellow, or white, most of the time...just look for the splotch of Having a screen is supposed to keep all but the most intent birds away....kind of like having a top on a indoor tank if you have a cat...hehe.

Funny thing about fish and other pets..the dog I spoke of earlier likes to eat the fish flakes that don't make it into the if you go over, you can tell if the fish have been fed, because her breath reeks of dead fish....its the weirdest thing, and kinda grody too.

Dusty - 11/9/2003 at 03:15 PM

...seeems about this time every year,,, I get a seagull who , when I whistle to it,,, comes and I feed it dog biscuits...its never around in the Summer or Spring,, just the late Fall through the Winter,,,in the Spring, it disapears...its been doing that for over 25 I know they dont live that long,,,,,,I believe its another one of those mysteries that I live with here..........

Dusty - 4/25/2004 at 04:14 AM

well, looks like I have adopted another mallard duck,,, today,, I was playing the mandolin on the deck,,a Woody Guithrie tune and saw a few ducks in the water,,,then one flys up to the grass,, and landed with a
thump and jusy sat there,,,,so I went to go look,, and it had one leg,,,,,,, so I went in the barn,, and got a bucket of cracked corn... and went down and fed the poor thing,,,and I named him,

nyc_barb - 5/9/2004 at 10:02 PM

How's Stompy doing? Does he still come around? My dog would probably chase him away!
We are down to 3 pets right now.The dog and 2 cats! An all time low for us.

Hey Barb, he's doing good, I see him every now and then, and now I got 10 baby Mallards and five geese.. of course, their not really mine... lol.... but when they hear Me, outside singing and playing they swim over...... and I feed them
a few decades ago...after supper I would be going fishin' and when I came in,,,, start playing the guitar on my old patio... then the ducks would hear Me and come to get fed.... and I wrote a song... well actually named it as a joke,, called
'feeding the ducks'...I was playing it one day ,, and some one asked .. whats the name of it....and told them... then thought I could do better with it.... and renamed it'Sunset on Big River' Id' like to Thank the duck's.... for getting me back into

nyc_barb - 5/10/2004 at 03:30 PM

Sad ending to this story,,,a few days ago, the swan reapaeared..and he swam over,,,, and I fed it,,, but it looked very skinny and sickly..... yesterday I looked out the window,,and through the tree's I saw him,,, so I called out to him and grabbed a can of ccracked corn to feed him... but when I got waters side.. I had its head down in the water and was floating dead.....
Swans mate for life.. and a few years back,, its mate was killed.....I kind of know how it feels.. my soulmate lost her battle against cancer ,,,10 years ago to that day....the Season of Life.....seems there's allways a ying and a yang...........
